Nail bars don't suffer from crisis

Everywhere we go, all we hear is "recession", "crisis" and "lower purchasing power". Depressing, isn't it? But don't be fooled by what all the media hoo ha, it’s not all doom and gloom! Some businesses are showing good resistance to this monster of a recession, one of which are nail salons.

Logic dictates that in the turbulent economic climate people would cut down on non-essential purchasing such as beauty treatments. Logic is wrong! Feeling good about your appearance IS essential for a majority of women. That is why millions of them are still spending in this sector despite the crisis. Spending has slowed down when it comes to fashion but not Health and Beauty!

Nail bars, which require less investment than a salon to set-up, have increased in number by 16.5% over the last three years. The reason why these outlets are currently booming is that they offer women the opportunity to pamper themselves at a good price: "It's a little affordable treat". A basic manicure costs around £18 , lasts about 20 minutes and is considered by a lot of women to be a cheap way to feel good. It is also the occasion for them to relax and escape momentarily from their daily busy life. This seems to be the magical recipe adopted by many beauty customers to fight the crisis.
Men have football, women have nails!

Here is a report from the BBC on how nail bar boom defies economic slump. Enjoy!
